The Emergence of the Sector
The country has passed witnessed enormous industrial revolution, especially in the petroleum industry, which has become a fundamental pillar in the state’s economy. This situation required a creation of a special security force to protect the petroleum and industrial facilities and face any messes that may prejudice the security of these achievements and country’s gains.
On this basis, and according to the royal decree No. 96/8 dated on 16/01/1399 AH, a decision by His Royal Highness the Minister of Interior No. (76), dated on 16/07/1402 AH has created a (Premises security force) which has been tasked to provide the necessary protection of petroleum and industrial plans from the outside, and to ensure the efficiency of the security of those facilities from the inside. The decision also linked the force to the deputy interior minister under the supervision of public security. And with the development of events and responsibilities that required to raise the level of the forces administratively to enable them better perform their role, the Minister of Interior has issued a decision No. 721, dated on 05/02/1427 AH that separated the premises security force from the public security and linked it directly to the Assistant Interior Minister for Security Affairs as an independent security sector.
Beginning of Sector’s Work
The premises security forces began work after the issuance of the ministerial resolution No. (76), dated on 07/16/1402 AH. The departments were formed and the field functions were defined along with the administrative responsibilities, which took four-year period. The actual work began in the Eastern region on 15/02/1406 AH, where the force took over the responsibility for providing security and protection to a number of petroleum and industrial plants, and then rolled to the other sites.
Organizational Structure
According to the formation of the premises security forces command, it is linked to the Assistant Minister of Interior for Security Affairs and managed by Commander in Chief of the forces, who is associated with an assistant commander, in addition to a number of public and specialized departments.
A number of commanders of the forces’ commands in the regions are associated with the general forces Commander. There is a commander and an assistant commander for every command in the regions, who are associated with departments and sections with similar functions and tasks.
