Alarm Definition:
Inform inhabitants about dangers and threats through different alarming means, and implement the Civil Defense instructions to protect individuals, possessions and national resources.
Purpose of Alarming:
Inform inhabitants about dangers in order to take the necessary precautions and follow the Civil Defense instructions through television and radio.
Siren Definition:
Sirens are modern equipments with different tones; each tone has a specified indication to inform inhabitants about dangers.
Alarming Means:

Fixed and mobile sirens.

Loudspeakers.
-
Media.
-
Any other means to alarm inhabitants.
Types of sirens:

Electronic.
-
Electric.
-
Wireless.
Siren Tones Definition:
This indicates different tones of alarms and purpose of each. The Kingdom and Gulf Cooperation Council Countries defined three tones as follows:

First tone: Intermittent tone for one minute, and it indicates danger before occurring.

Second tone: Dual tone for one minute, and it indicates danger while it is occurring.
-
Third tone: Constant tone for one minute, and it indicates end of danger.
Using Sirens:
Sirens are used in peacetime, emergencies and wartime.
A- Peacetime:

Natural disasters (such as floods, fluxes, volcanoes, tornados and landslides.)

Industrial disasters: (such as radiation leaks due to nuclear reactions and chemical and biological weapons.)
B- Emergencies and wartime:
Sirens Distribution Standards:

Population Density: Importance of the city according to number of inhabitants.

Economic Importance: Importance of the city according to economic facilities available at that city.

Military Importance: Importance of the city according to military organizations available at that city.

Environmental Importance: Importance of the city according to number of factories available at that city.
-
Other Importance: Any other importance for specific cities such as the religious importance of Makkah and Madina.
Procedures followed in case of hearing sirens:
A- First Tone:

Wear the costume against chemical, biological and nuclear substances.

Move to a safe location (shelter, basement …etc.)

Avoid areas that are exposed to air raids and missile attacks.

Follow-up Civil Defense instructions on television or radio.
B- Second Tone:

Put on the gas mask.

Stay in your shelter, basement or any safe area.
-
Follow-up Civil Defense instructions on television or radio.
C- Third Tone:
-
Do not take off the gas mask unless you receive instructions.

Do not leave the safe area (shelter, basement...etc.) unless you receive instructions.

Follow-up Civil Defense instructions on television or radio.
