Brief History:
The Institute was established by ministerial resolution No. 1764 94 dated 19/03/1394H. It is linked to the General Administration for Training. The purpose of the institute is to prepare human resources and train staffs to carry out Civil Defense activities at peace and wartimes; and it trains and develops skills of the workforces of civil defence, government bodies and other public and private sectors so that they could perform their tasks appropriately.
Training programmes:
Training programmes are designed to fulfill the requirements of Civil Defense field works. The educational programmes implemented in the institute are divided into:

Qualifying programmes.

Basic programmes.

Specialized programmes.

Advanced programmes.
First – Qualifying programmes:
These programmes aim at providing the trainee with the basic knowledge and skills that help him understand Civil Defense's tasks and activities, and participate in the performance. Examples of such programmes are those taught to new graduated officers.
Second – Basic programs:
These programs provide civil defense staffs with basic subjects as introduction to specialization in respective Civil Defence fields. Such programs include basic courses as fire fighting and rescue, safety and civil protection and civil defence support activities.
Third – Specialized programsme:
The purpose of specialized programmes is to devote theoretical and practical concepts focusing in the areas of specialty. Such programs include:

Investigation.

Preparation of trainers.

First aid.

Preparation of leaders.
Fourth – Advanced programmes:
These programmes provide the trainee with the knowledge and skills to enable him prepare executive plans for civil defence's works, execute, and supervise such plans. Examples of these programmes are:

Fire fighting and rescue advanced course.

Safety and civil protection advanced course.
Implementation of programmes:
Programmes are carried out through curricula involving theoretical lectures and applied training on civil defence's tools and machinery.
Moreover, implementation involves management of different field accidents, field visits and scientific seminars besides exhibitions for educational tools and explanatory boards, which enrich the knowledge, and experiences of the trainee. There are two labs for English language and six labs for computer sciences.
Both theoretical and applied parts have been given great care because they are the core stones for the success of training. The activities outside the academic programs such as visiting sites of relation to Civil Defence's works have been carried out to activate trainees and keep them updated with all that is new in civil defense field. The institute attracts specialists in different areas of civil defense every year as part of the annual cultural season.
Programmes Basic Curricula:
Civil defence training institute students study all subjects of the academic program; and the specialised trainees study subjects relating to their specialisation besides other subjects determined basing on requirements. The basic subjects taught at the institute are:
1- Holy Quran.
The purpose is to remind students about the significance and value of Quran, and to make some emphasis regarding some verse, and how can be linked to civil defence activities.
2- Islamic Culture:
The purpose of this subject is to link students to the Islamic culture by enrooting dogma concepts and the impact of all on the attitudes of individuals and society, with concentration on legitimacy of civil defense activities.
3- Fire-Fighting:
The purpose is to develop the knowledge and skills of trainees so that they could use civil defense machinery and firefighting equipment to fight all types of fire accidents.
4- Rescue:
The purpose is to develop the knowledge and skills of the trainees so that they could use civil defense machinery and rescue equipment in order to deal will all rescue cases.
5-First Aid:
The purpose is to provide the trainee with the knowledge and basic skills of first aid so that the trainee could provide first aid and required health care according to accident type, available resources and seriousness of accident.
6- Safety:
The purpose is to provide the trainee with the knowledge regarding safety concepts, regulations, instruction and procedures.
7- Civil Protection:
The purpose is provide the trainee with the knowledge and skills relating to civil defense's procedures, civil defense regulations and strategies applied at risk and disaster times and how to manage such during war and peacetime.
8- Investigation:
The purpose is to get the trainee acquainted with technical investigation in the accidents, the significance, the objective and procedures; and to provide the trainee with basic knowledge and skills required to carry out investigation.
9- Auxiliary Subjects:
These are supplementary subjects relating to civil defense activities, provided to students and trainees. The subjects include English language, computer, etc.
10- Physical Education:
The purpose of physical education is to lift fitness levels for trainees and students. Some sports are also made available to deepen unity and friendship amongst trainees and students.
The above-mentioned courses and activities represent part of the successive courses of training developed by the institute throughout the past years. The basic works been carried out by the institute for training purpose have been highlighted starting from the registration process.
