Water is most common for fighting fires from a long time. It is cheap, effective and easily accessible.
Attributes of water:
Water is liquid in normal temperature; it boils at 100 degrees centigrade; high capacity to absorb heat. Water increase in volume and decrease in intensively when freezes. It is good electricity connector; good ions dissolver; it has core significance life cycle.
Type of water:
Water covers three quarters of the globe. It is a component in every living creature. Al-mighty Allah said in the holy Quran that he has created all living creatures form water. The types of water are purified water, pure water and salt water.
Natural properties of water:
-
The surface is horizontal.
-
Surface tie.
-
Viscosity
Chemical properties of water:
-
Qualitative heat.
-
Freezing.
-
Boiling
-
Evaporation.
Impact of water on fires:
-
Cooling: water cools inflaming materials, absorbs heat, and lowers it to lesser than inflammation level.
-
Strangulation: inflammation heat evaporates water; such intensive vapor strangulates oxygen and prevents fire.
-
Emulsification: Emulsification is the mixture of water molecules with the molecules of fluids that are non-soluble in the air, composing noninflammable emulsion. During the rapid movement of water in different directions, coming from the spray sources, the water relegation will be relatively slow. This great mix between water and burning liquid droplets become more prone to cool besides the amount of heat absorbed by water droplets that are swimming on the surface of the volatile liquid before mixing. In addition to the increased absorbed parts of the high temperature and prone to ignite if the temperature continues to increase liquid , leaving the temperature of these parts lower than temperature of inflammation, by equating heat absorbed by water flowing from these parts, and then reduce heat relatively depending on the amount of water used and method of use.
-
Water lessens concentration: when water mixes with inflaming oils, it lessens the concentration of inflammable components in those oils which delays or prevents fire.
