The Ministry of Interior is most concerned with the narcotics control. Thus, the General Directorate of Narcotics Control adopts a deliberate plan that is aimed at suppressing any attempts to smuggle and/ or promote drugs in Saudi Arabia.
To ensure the success of control programmes, the GDNC endeavors to create a network of relations between the relevant state organs, such as the Border Guard and Customs at all land and sea ports; and the departments of Passports, Security patrols, Traffic, Police, Civil Defence, Ministry of Defence and Aviation, National Guard, the Commission for Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Islamic Affairs, and other related bodies.
The General Directorate of Narcotics Control recognizes the importance of the preparation of its cadres; thus it provides training for its employees along with officers and staff through the placement of continuous field and theoretical programmes— internally and abroad. This much contributed in raising the level of performance in the fighting process.
With regard to information, which is the basis for all control operations; and because of its utmost importance, the GDNC pays great attention to the issue. The GDNC recruits collaborators who provide information that contributes to the efforts of the men of the Directorate to defeat the traffickers and promoters.
Due to the volume of information available to the Directorate, a process of cataloging and classification is required to assist speeding availability of information. The General Directorate has therefore used the computer to store and classify information. It also developed all processes relating to surveillance, investigation, raid and seizure, by providing all departments and sections of the General Directorate of Narcotic Control with the most advanced relevant equipment and devices.
