The National Information Center (NIC) is one of the important and vital achievements, as it provides the Presidency of State Security (PSS) and ministry of interior's sectors with the technologies and technical supports, update the programming works, store data according to the latest scientific practices, and using computers.

The NIC is inter-connected through a number of branches and divisions throughout the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia including Riyadh, Jeddah, Dammam, Buaidah, Tayef, Madinah, Ar'ar, Tabouk, Abha, Najran, Makkah, Al-Jouf, Hayel, Al-Baha and Jazzan. These branches and divisions offer operations and maintenance services to the Ministry’s sectors in the regions and in addition participate in serving and supporting the Hajj.

NIC main duties include the following:

  1. Providing the PSS and its sectors with the following technical services:
    • Computer and telecommunication systems.
    • Secured communication network.
    • Application of the appropriate methods to ensure security of information.
    • Conducting research in relevant IT fields.
  2. Developing and automating the PSS’s information systems as follows:
    • Analysing the need for automated systems for the PSS sectors.
    • Developing and implementing automated systems in areas such as: security, public services, and administration.
    • Ensuring that the systems deployed are technically proficient and meet PSS’s requirements.
    • Preparing the supporting documentation for systems and applications
  3. Developing the NIC's automated systems and their performance as follows:
    • Monitoring and evaluating the existing systems and increasing their capacity as required.
    • Operating and maintenance of existing computer systems, operating systems, and applications.
    • Operating and monitoring the center’s network.
    • Updating and archiving technical documentation for the above mentioned systems and applications.
  4. Supporting the PSS’s administration and sectors to make the best use of the Center’s services by:
    • Studying the technical requirements and liaising with departments to ensure immediate response.
    • Installing computer and telecommunication systems.
    • Preventive and periodical maintenance of the above mentioned systems.
    • Provision of spare parts for the NIC and all sectors.
  5. Planning and implementing training programs, related to the Center ’s activities, as follows:
    • Specifying the technical needs of the Computer Center 's staff and the PSS's sectors' employees.
    • Designing and delivering training programs.
    • Procuring, organising and providing the latest information, related to the Center 's activities.
    • Providing the appropriate training aids.
  6. Coordinating with the technical authorities representing the PSS for the following:
    • Preparing strategic plans for deployment of IT technologies in the PSS and its sectors.
    • Organising different IT projects and controlling electronic information exchange between the PSS’s sectors and other concerned parties, when required.
    • Representing the PSS in meetings organised by the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology.
