Col. Sami bin Mohammed Al-Shuwairikh, Director General of Relations and Information at the Public Security, said that the Special Road Safety Forces will effectively start to re-determine the speed limits on some highways as of Monday 19 Feb., to 140 km/h for small vehicles, 100 km/h for buses and 80 km/h for trucks, pointing out that the signs will be fixed to identify and determine the beginning and end of speed limits on such roads.
Col. Al-Shuwairikh has stressed the importance of adhering to the specified speed limits and not exceeding them, and follow the signboards that determine the speeds in some sections of the road.
For their part, the special road safety forces urged all road users to note that this does not mean they need to increase the speed to the upper limit, but these signs show the maximum speed limit allowed on the road, and alerted drivers to be cautious in different weather conditions, affirming that everyone is committed to traffic regulations to ensure their safety and the safety of others.
Speed limits have been re-defined in some roads that include the Riyadh-Taif road to the west, the Taif-Riyadh road to the east, the Riyadh-Qaseem road to the north, the Qaseem-Riyadh road to the south, the Makkah-Madinah road towards the north, the Madinah-Makkah road to the south, the Madinah-Jeddah road to the south and the Jeddah-Madinah road towards the north.
