The Regions' System issued on 27 Shaaban 1412 A.H. divided the emirate of Al-Baha into six governorates three of them are A category (Baljorchi; Almendaq; and Al-Makhwat). And three are B category (Al-Aqeeq; Al-Qur'rah; and Gahlawa).
The region includes 32 centres 21 of which are category A and 11 centres of category (b).
The governorate of Baljorchi is located twenty-eight kilometres southeast of Al-Baha, approximately two thousand meters above sea level. Flat valleys and high mountains surround Baljorchi adding to its beautifulness.
Baljorchi borders Al-Baha from the north; Abha from the south; Al-Surwatt Mountains from the west; and the desert from the east.
Almendaq is located on AL-Surwatt heights in Tihama, about 40 km northwest of Al-Baha. It is located 2243 metres above sea level with an estimated area of about 650 square kilometres. Almendaq governorate includes more than 160 villages. Allah has blessed it with marvellous nature and parks that are enjoyed by local people and visiting tourists.
Al-Makhwat is located at Tihama of Al-Baha, denominated by latitude 19o20 N and longitude 41o45 E, on Al-Surwatt Mountains. Mountains from all directions surround Al-Makhwat. It is located 45 kilometres from the capital of the region. A number of paved roads have been constructed in Al-Makhwatt that joins it to the Capital. The terrain is a mixture of mountains and plateaus.
Al-Aqeeq governorate is located in Badiat-Ghamid (Ghamid Desert). The airport of the region is there in Al-Aqeeq.
Al-Qur'rah is located on Al-Surwatt heights between latitude 20 and latitude 41, about 2200 metres above sea level. It is at 30 kilometres north of Al-Baha. The area of the governorate is estimated to 1500 square kilometres; and it is considered the North Gate to Al-Baha region.
Al-Qur'rah is characterized by its location on the international dual road, making it of great importance among the governorates of the region.
Gahlawa governorate is located in the Tihama area, 70 kilometres away from Al-Baha.
