The ministerial agency of civil affairs confirmed that the registration of names of births is subject to the Civil Affairs’ system and regulations.
The official spokesman of Civil Affairs Mohammed bin Jasser Al-Jasser emphasised that according to the regulations, Civil Affairs does not register the names of newborns that are not allowed by Sharia, and those socially inappropriate.
He stressed a need to abide by the rules of the Arabic language when registering names and remove words that are not part of a name, noting that the civil affairs does not register compound names.
He noted to some statement containing 50 names, which the social media have stirred recently claiming it has been circulated by civil affairs to hospitals asking them not to register such names, affirming that the civil affairs did not issue such a statement.
Concluding his statement, Al-Jasser urged the parents to choose good names for their children in accordance with laws and regulations.
